Slum Village Releases ‘F.U.N,’ First New Album In A Decade

Slum Village has returned with their first new album in a decade. F.U.N was released on Friday (May 3) and features a 12-track journey through the minds of Detroit's finest. But if fans are looking for their backpack-synonymous sound they may be surprised to find something a little different. 

F.U.N leans heavily into other Black genres of music, such as disco, jazz, and modern Hip-Hop, balancing the group's established identity with a need for unexplored musical terrain. Sonically the work is essentially an ode to Detroit.

"We wanted to just try something new, so we focused on making Disco-inspired music," Young RJ explained in a press release. T3 noted that the recording process "began with collecting old Disco records."

"Slum is still here. We're still relevant and we're still trying to push the envelope. Sometimes people put too many rules on music, and without sounding cliche, we wanted to just have fun with [this album], he added. "So, in three words: F**k U Ni**as."

The brand-new album features appearances from Larry June, Robert Glasper, Cordae, Sango, and more. F.U.N is the first new Slum Village album since 2015's critically acclaimed Yes! and is now available on all major digital streaming platforms.
