Prim Issues New Track, “Make Your Bed”
Prim released their latest single, "Make Your Bed," on Thursday (Aug. 22), and the feel-good melancholic vibes are there. But don't get it confused; according to a press release from the Seattle-based outfit, "this is not a happy song." True alt-rock magic. "Make Your Bed" features abrasive yet comforting guitar licks that zig and zag through the foundation of the song's lively bass performance.
If you're like me, you probably heard the song and said, "Huh, this kinda reminds me of The Breeders but something totally new?" and that would be spot on—Prim's newest track balances homage and innovation in an age where the lines are oft-blurred. Co-vocalist Evelyn Frances even does her best to harness the power of rock Goddess Kim Deal, and it doesn't come off as a knock or cheap imitation; it's a dope performance.
I've been trying not to wax poetic about the song too much, but I have to admit, with a catchy refrain, forlorn lyrics that move with the spirit of '90s ghost's past, it's hard not to put this joint on repeat.
"Make Your Bed" will be included in Prim's forthcoming album, Move Too Slow, due on September 6, 2024 on Sunday Drive.
Listen above.
